Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery. Regain Control of your Body

Surgery might be covered by PPO Insurance.
We accept PPO, Cash, Financing.

Obesity is a national epidemic in America - almost 1000 people die from obesity related problems every day

The Roux-en-Y surgery procedure is usually performed with very small incisions in the abdomen as laparoscopic surgery. This results in shorter hospital stays, less pain and scarring, less blood loss and lower risk of infection or internal organ damage in comparison with more traditional open incision procedures.

The Roux-en-Y surgery procedure essentially creates a smaller stomach. This means the patient feels full on less food. Because the part of the stomach which creates the hormones controlling appetite is removed, the gastric sleeve procedure also reduces the patient’s appetite.

  What is Roux-en-Y surgery?

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery uses a combination of restriction and malabsorption. During the procedure, the surgeon creates a smaller stomach pouch. The surgeon then attaches a Y-shaped section of the small intestine directly to the pouch. This allows food to bypass a large portion of the small intestine, which absorbs calories and nutrients. Having the smaller stomach pouch causes patients to feel fuller sooner and eat less food; bypassing a portion of the small intestine means the patient’s body absorbs fewer calories.

This drastic reduction limits your stomach's ability to hold food, making you feel full after eating only a small amount, requiring you to eat substantially less. This is the basis of the results you will see during the aftercare and beyond.

Patients with a lower BMI who may consider this operation include:
  1. Individuals who have concerns regarding the possible side effects that may accompany an intestinal bypass in the long term: ulcers, intestinal obstruction, protein deficiency, osteoporosis, anemia, or vitamin deficiency.
  2.  Patients who are thinking about a Lap-Band® but do not want a foreign body inside their abdomen.
  3. People with medical conditions which may prevent successful weight loss surgery such as those with: Crohn's disease, extensive prior surgery, anemia, or other complex medical conditions.
  4. Individuals who are required to take anti-inflammatory medications might want to consider this option because such medication often must be avoided to prevent ulcers after a gastric bypass.
The Sleeve Gastrectomy may be a viable option for patients who have problems with their lap-band. They may have already lost a lot of weight but do not want a full bypass. Weight loss does seem to be a little better and a bit more rapid than with the lap-band. Though there is no long term data available the current information shows a 60-70 % EWL rate over two years.

  Individuals who have Lap-Band® complications

Lap-Band® patients who have difficulty with conditions such as: band erosion, reflux, band slippage, esophagitis or port site infection may be considered for “revision" surgery.  That means taking out the Lap-band® System and proceeding with the VSG (Gastric Sleeve). These patients are already very concerned about regaining their lost weight. They can benefit substantially from the gastric sleeve procedure.  The Gastric Sleeve allows them to maintain their current weight and allow them to continue losing weight.
